DETROIT – Michigan Cadillac dealers may have been hearing much of the positive buzz surrounding the entire Cadillac brand over the past few weeks, and the news is only getting louder. The Cadillac ELR debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show.

Not all automakers put their models up to the challenges of everyday conditions, but Cadillac chose to do just that to show fans and interested buyers just what the Cadillac ELR can do. During the first full week of February, engineers completed winter weather chassis tests on a number of pre-production ELR models.

The engineers were taken to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to test the models in realistic conditions.

“Being able to test the ELR in extreme road conditions, like those we experienced here in the U.P., allows us to provide a ride-and-handling character unlike any EV on the market today,” said Chris Thomason, ELR chief engineer. “During this latest test, the ELR continued to perform beyond our expectations.”

There were more than four inches of fresh snowfall helped the team use real conditions for the tests. The team tested specific features of the ELR by checking:

  • steering
  • tires
  • anti-lock brakes
  • traction control
  • electronic stability control
  • Continuous Damping Control suspension

Below a video can be viewed, showing the testing completed by the engineers.

Aside from the Cadillac ELR being seen as a new and will-be tremendously reliable vehicle, Michigan Cadillac dealers may have watched as the ELR won the Eyes on Design Award for best production vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show.

This extended-range electric luxury coupe is hoping to make its way off the stage and into the many Michigan Cadillac dealers and those across the country in early 2014.
