DETROIT – Michigan Buick dealers may have already heard the news as Motor Trend Magazine has written a new article with an in-depth look at two models that are making their way into Generation Y. With the many models that are being introduced into Generation Y, the generation born between 1980s and 1990s, the brands Buick and Acura have two models that are making an impression as entry luxury models.

Both the 2013 Buick Verano Turbo and the 2013 Acura ILX were analyzed, driven and examined by Motor Trend Magazine. Different aspects were looked at for both models such as the speed, handling and power. Although their base models start at $20k, Motor Trend tested the next two trims up.

The basic specs for both models include:

  • 2013 Buick Verano Turbo: 250 hp, 2.0-liter turbo-four, 260 lb-ft of torque, and six forward, driver-selected gears.
  • 2013 Acura ILX: 201-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder, 170 lb-ft of torque, and idyllic six-speed manual.

The Acura may be 0.4 seconds faster getting to 60 mph, but in terms of a smooth ride, the Verano takes curves pleasantly, even with its extra 498 pounds.

There was no added navigation in the Acura model that was analyzed, although other trims do have them stocked. As for the Verano, the navigation is available for an additional $795. When the models do have navigation built-in, though, the Verano has two inches on the screen for the Acura.

One of the final important characteristics that was looked at between these two vehicles included the sound isolation design. As can be seen in the following graph, the Buick Verano Turbo beats out the Acura and other Civic models. The smaller the number, the better the sound isolation.

So, which model won the battle?

The 2013 Buick Verano flew by with flying colors. Dealers may be excited to be able to offer a Motor Trend Magazine pick, but only drivers will know for themselves once they experience a test drive at one of their local Michigan Buick dealers.
