DETROIT – Michigan Buick dealers may know how involved General Motors and Buick are together to bring scholarships and other school programs to the many students across the U.S. The Buick Achievers Scholarships Program is actually funded by the General Motors Foundation. With 1,100 recipients of the special scholarships, the program is giving close to $4.2 million to students.

The General Motors Foundation has donated millions of dollars to American charities, educational organizations and to disaster relief efforts worldwide since its inception in 1976. Its main focuses include the following:

  • Education
  • Health and Human Services
  • Environment and Energy
  • Community Development

It’s important to both Buick and GM that students are able to have the financial backing to be able to continue with their education.

“Students are graduating today with more than $25,000 in debt, hindering them with years of financial burden,” said GM Foundation President Vivian Pickard. “Through the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program, the GM Foundation is able to alleviate some of those financial hurdles, while fostering the growth of the next generation of leaders for STEM-related fields.”

Recently, the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program announced the names of the recipients during the NBC New Education Nation Summit in New York City. The students that were chosen come from all over the nation with at least one student from every state.

One of the tremendous things that Michigan Buick dealers may know about the Buick Achiever Scholarships Program is that it grants 100 students up to $25,000. And according to GM Media the grants “are renewable for up to four years and one additional year for qualified five-year engineering programs.” Other parts to the program include 1,000 students able to receive a one-time $2,000 award.

With all of the help from Buick and GM, the end of 2012 should see close to $13 million to help students attend school, and Michigan Buick dealers may be proud to be a part of Buick.
