DETROIT – The car recalls that come from the many different automakers often come with more dangers than others. Ford Motor Corp happens to be one of the automakers that has had problems due to potential fire risks. MI Auto Times has reported on BMW, Toyota and Jeep all having the same potential issues with fire, albeit different reasons.

The problem Ford is facing now may be one of the smaller of its recalls, but it is recalling a vehicle that it already has recalled in the past. Back in January, MI Auto Times reported that Ford Motor Corp was recalling 270,000 Ford Escapes from the model years 2001 and 2002 due to possible fire risks.

The original reason was due to the fact that a missing or misplaced seal brought the possibility of a fire due to the potential of a leak and a spark. This recall has a similar problem as the fuel lines have the potential of cracking and spilling gasoline, which, of course, can cause an engine fire if not fixed.

The current 11,500 Ford Escape 2013 models are in the process of being recalled, but this is not the first recall for the 2013 Ford Escape as there have been two others.

  • In July, Ford recalled the 2013 Escape due to faulty engine compartment fuel lines in vehicles fitted with the 1.6-liter engine
  • Also in July, 10,000 Escapes were recalled over a brake pedal interference issue

Although the previous car recalls have had actual customer reports of fires, this recall has not. The only report has been about an Escape that may have caught fire at a dealership in Tennessee. The models that are affected were built between October 5 2011 and August 31, 2012.  Dealerships will come to owners of these vehicles, pick up the Escape vehicle and then drop off a loaner car. Ford is meant to have the needed parts in two weeks.
