MI Car Dealer Shoppers Added to the High Success of March; GM Huge Sales for 30 MPG Vehicles
DETROIT – MI car dealers customers may have visited one or more during the last month, and if so, they contributed to the whole industry as March saw huge increases in sales. General Motors on its own saw large increases as the corporation sold 100,000 fuel-savers in March.
March was big enough to have almost sold 1.5 million vehicles as an industry which is a 17 percent gain from the same time last year. If that percentage wasn’t high enough, there was also a 26 percent increase from February, which shows that it wasn’t just a fluke month in February as March has kept the numbers consistent.
The sales for March show the full year sales with a SAAR of 14.9 million vehicles. This is following a strong February with a SAAR of 15 million vehicles and January with a SAAR of 14.1 million. The given figures are delivering a positive lookout for the year. Just as the positive outlook for General Motors is also increasing with its strong finish to March.
Of the 12 vehicles that achieve 30 miles per gallon offered by GM, there were close to 100,000 sold in March. Those vehicles represent about 40 percent of the total sales for the month of March for GM.
“GM’s strategic investments in four-cylinder and turbocharged engines, advanced transmissions and vehicle electrification have been very well timed,” said Mark Reuss, president of GM North America. “Three years ago, about 16% of the vehicles GM sold achieved at least 30 mpg on the highway. Today, that number is about 40%.”
MI car dealers shoppers should know that the total may be 40 percent now but the amount is expected to rise in the future with vehicles such as the 2013 Cadillac ATS, the Chevrolet Spark and the four-cylinder 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. Each of these models is estimated to produce up to 30 miles per gallon or better as well.
Other automakers such as Toyota and Chrysler also did well for the month with a 22 percent increase for Toyota and a 35 percent increase for Chrysler from last year.
Next month will show if the good numbers will continue for MI car dealers and others across the country.
