Woodward Dream Cruise attendees do more than just cruise the avenue and take in the thundering muscle cars and classic beauties rolling down the avenue or  parked side-by-side  for all to see.

In the spirit of the event’s creation, many gather to support local causes and give back to the community that provides the pavement these cars travel along.

This evening hundreds of Corvettes gathered at the Radisson Hotel in Bloomfield Hills where they collected canned food to take with them on their drive along the Avenue. Police block off the road for these estimated 400 Corvettes to drive en masse to the Open Hands Food Pantry at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Royal Oak, located at 11 Mile and Woodward where they’d make their delivery and donations.

The event has been running at the Woodward Dream Cruise for nine years and was inspired by organizer Larry Courtney’s witnessing of 40 or so Mustangs during a previous Woodward Dream Cruise. Inspired, he contacted the Corvette owners he knew and the word spread, eventually reaching the high number it is today.

It’s a sight to behold and makes one stop and think about all the years Chevrolet has been in existence: 100 years and 400 cars of loyal fans making a strong showing of loyalty to the brand and thoughtfulness to the community.
