DETROIT, M.I. – Car recalls are in need of a recap as MI Auto Times finds multiple recalls for different automakers. From Ford Motor Corp recalling 1.1 million vehicles to 20,000 recalled Nissan vehicles, automakers are facing definite costs to repair vehicles that may have potentially dangerous problems.

Ford Motor Corp

According the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford Motor Corp is completing the first, and possibly the largest, recall of August as 1.1 million vehicles are being recalled.

The problem that is being addressed in this recall was investigated in September as the NHTSA began researching a possible issue with Ford F150 MI vehicles as well as Ford F250 and Lincoln Blackwood vehicles.

The issue is the corrosion of one or both straps that hold the fuel lines to the fuel tank. What may occur is the separation of the fuel lines from the tank, or in more severe cases, the fuel tank will contact the ground. Whichever occurs, the result may be a fuel leak, which could ultimately lead to a fire under the vehicle.

Owners will be notified, starting in mid-September.

As the investigation turned recall, Ford Motor Corp is facing another investigation for the Mercury Milan and some 2010 Ford Fusion models. It seems 317,000 vehicles may have a problem with the wheel studs, bolts holding the wheels to the car, breaking. This has caused cases of wheels separating from the vehicle. Although there have been no crashes or injuries, the NHTSA is investigating the 29 complaints that have been filed.

Nissan

About 20,000 Nissan Altimas from the 2011 to 2012 model year are included in car recalls due to the possibility of losing a bolt that may come unfastened while the vehicle is in motion. The bolt in question is the transverse link bolt, and it may not have been properly “torqued to the proper specification,” according to the NHTSA.

A rattling sound or vibration may be heard if the bolt comes out completely, and the driver may lose the ability to steer the vehicle while driving. This could result in a crash. Owners will be notified on or before August 1.

Volvo

Thousands of 2007 Volvo S80s may be having problems with their steering mechanisms. It seems the power steering reservoir return hose may have been built into the vehicle incorrectly. This may result in increased pressure in the power steering system. If the pressure becomes severe enough, the hose may burst, and the driver may lose power steering and control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a collision.

Owners will be notified starting in August.

Toyota Motor Corp

There are 2011 Lexus RX350 models that may be having issues with their hydraulic brakes. The problem may be that the calibration for the hydraulic control valves are not correct. This could mean the right front wheel could malfunction and not be controlled properly while using the antilock brake system or vehicle stability control system.

The recall will start in the beginning of August.

Car recalls are unfortunately a continuous problem for many automakers, and MI Auto Times will continue to cover the issues as they arise.
